¿Es el emprendimiento en Trabajo Social una opción para mi?

Si estás leyendo esta entrada es muy posible que en alguna ocasión te lo hayas preguntado. El ejercicio libre puede parecer una opción interesante para ejercer el Trabajo Social pero ¿es realmente una opción viable para ti?

A raíz de esta cuestión me he aventurado en hacer esta entrada , para que te pueda ayudar a verlo más claro. 

¿Qué es el ejercicio libre del Trabajo Social?

Aunque no existe todavía una definición de consenso, si existe una idea fija de lo que es el ejercicio libre con las contribuciones de algunas compañeras que han publicado. Desde mi experiencia en ejercicio libre aporto mi propia definición

"Proyecto liderado desde el Trabajo Social que apuesta por generar respuestas de impacto a necesidades de la población para mejorar sus condiciones de vida de forma sistémica y autosostenible. Es una iniciativa privada y autosostenible que genera fondos a través de la venta de servicios propios de la profesión a entidades y/o particulares. Esto permite expandir la actividad en numerosos ámbitos (nuevos o tradicionales) y la posibilidad de innovar socialmente"

No puede decirse que el ejercicio libre sea un ámbito de la profesión, ni que tenga herramientas propias, pero si es una forma distinta de ejercer la profesión. Pone al profesional al frente de su propia entidad, con total independencia, y un único limite a su actividad: el código ético de la profesión.

Esta persona decide qué servicios va a ofertar, a qué tipo de clientes va a atender y los colectivos a los que se dirige. Esta es la principal diferencia con otras formas más habituales de ejercer.

¿Cómo se si es un camino adecuado para mi?

Si bien a esta pregunta solo puedes contestarla tu, puedo ofrecerte algunas pautas para ayudarte a decidirlo. 

El ejercicio libre (o cuenta propia) es una opción profesional para personas que quieren trabajar de forma independiente, sin estar bajo los intereses de una entidad que señale lo que hay que hacer. Esta libertad te permitirá dirigirte a los retos que tu misma/o te pongas, de la forma que consideres oportuna, y fijándote tus propias metas. Tendrás la oportunidad de luchar por aquello que deseas conseguir. Es inmensamente auto realizador. Podrás materializar aquello que sueñas y adentrarte en ámbitos en los que siempre quisiste introducirte.

En las desventajas encontramos que requiere de una importante autodisciplina, visión de negocio y lleva pareja una inestabilidad importante. No será habitual tener un sueldo fijo cada mes, y tendremos que estar planificando de forma certera nuestra actividad. Los comienzos serán duros, y tendremos que convivir en ocasiones con la incertidumbre de liderar nuestro propio destino. Tendrás que adquirir conocimientos empresariales para tu actividad y renovarte de forma constante.

En el otro lado, el empleo por cuenta ajena en una entidad, tiene importantes ventajas. Por un lado el sueldo seguro a fin de mes, la estabilidad de numerosos años que tienen muchas entidades públicas o privadas, o trabajar sin preocuparnos por decisiones vitales que tomará la cúpula directiva. La seguridad que ofrece este tipo de trabajo es importante para muchas personas. 

Dentro de las desventajas del trabajo por cuenta ajena está la subordinación a los intereses de la empresa/entidad, la dificultad de auto realizarnos en algunos puestos, la limitación de creatividad según el caso o no encontrarnos a gusto en el equipo de trabajo.

¿Cómo decidirme por una u otra opción?

Teniendo en cuenta lo anterior es cuestión de visualizar tu futuro y motivaciones vitales. Ante ello es necesario que te hagas las siguientes preguntas

  • ¿Donde me gustaría verme en cinco años?
  • ¿Qué me gustaría lograr en mi vida? ¿Y en mi trabajo?
  • ¿Puedo conseguir mis metas en un trabajo por cuenta propia? ¿Y en uno por cuenta ajena?
  • En materia laboral ¿Prefiero ser dirigido o caminar por libre?
  • ¿Me motiva crear mi proyecto propio siempre?, ¿o solo me lo planteo cuando no encuentro oportunidades por cuenta ajena?
  • ¿Soy perseverante?
  • ¿Cuento con los medios para ejecutar mi proyecto?

Responder a estas preguntas no es cuestión de un rato, si no de una profunda reflexión sobre lo que queremos conseguir en nuestra vida. 

Recomendaciones para finalizar

Tomate el tiempo que necesites para poder ubicarte y encontrar tu camino profesional deseado. No hay uno bueno ni uno malo, sino uno adecuado a cada persona según sus características personales y aspiraciones profesionales.

Esta entrada no recoge ni mucho menos todos y cada uno de los aspectos de cada opción, tan solo es un primer acercamiento para poder facilitarte resolver esta duda. Lo que si es realmente importante es que una vez te hayas decidido trabajes mucho y perseveres para conseguirlo. Las medias tintas, o querer compatibilizar ambas no suele ser una buena idea por el hecho de dividir nuestras energias y no  habernos implicado al 100%.

Y ojo, no necesariamente es una decisión de por vida. Podemos tener una etapa por cuenta ajena y otra por cuenta propia o viceversa. Lo fundamental es perseverar y trabajar por aquello que nos motiva.
